A Grand Re-Opening Ceremony for the renovated park will be scheduled and announced to the public once all of the safety considerations have been met, estimated to be by the end of September.
The newly renovated park boasts a natural turf baseball field and two softball fields with engineered root-zone material, subsurface drainage layers and an updated irrigation system, all which will help maintain stronger, longer-lasting sod. Residents should please note that the baseball field will remain closed until the spring of 2014 in order to allow the turf to appropriately root and grow prior to use.
New athletic field lighting targets areas of play and independent pedestrian lighting will illuminate areas of the park, such as the perimeter walkways. The existing Tot Lot has been completely overhauled. All new tot lot equipment has been installed, as well as pour-and-play surface material, which makes the lot ADA compliant.
The most drastic improvement is the overall beautification of the space. Formalized entrance areas, ornamental fencing, decorative lampposts, drinking fountains, and standardized benches and trash receptacles highlight the significant improvements in landscaping such as the retaining walls, flowerbeds, and planters.
The Glendale Park renovation was part of the Mayor’s Capital Improvement Program. The new space provides a state of the art facility that will make every resident proud.
