Girls Hockey Team Drops Contest with Marblehead

The Everett High girls hockey team came out on the short end of a 9-3 decision Wednesday evening against Marblehead. Despite the final score, the contest was a close one for most of the game. Marblehead jumped out to a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first period and maintained a two goal edge after two frames, 4-2.

Gabby Ramunno, assisted by Lauren Mahoney, scored the first Everett goal, and Alea Martinelli, unassisted, lit the lamp in the second stanza.

The Lady Crimson Tide then drew within a goal early in the third period when Rebecca Westgate slid the puck past the Marblehead goalie, assisted by Ramunno and Martinelli. However, that would prove to be as close as Everett would get the rest of the way. Costly penalties gave Marblehead power play opportunities, allowing the Lady Magicians to put the game away.

“We fell apart in that third period,” said EHS head coach Erin Reilly. “The penalties really hurt us.”

Reilly and her crew, who now are 1-2-1 on the season, will be back in action Saturday at Beverly.  The Lady Crimson Tide then will be off for  two weeks after that.
