St. John’s Prep coach Jim O’Leary said afterwards, “It was a good high school football game and clearly they’re still the best team in the state and I believe that. It’s great to come down here and play in this atmosphere. It was a hard-fought game.”

Branden Toussaint, who is listed at 6-5 and 400 pounds, saw action on the offensive line and turned in a solid performance. Notre Dame-bound senior John Montelus, Pat Sullivan, Reardan Sweeney, and Michael Ottersburg were very effective up front for the EHS offense.

St. John’s Prep senior wide receiver Lucas Bavaro is the son of former New York Giants tight end Mark Bavaro, who played high school football at Danvers High before going on to play at Notre Dame.

Everett hosts Barnstable Friday night in another No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown.
