Recently, Everett High School seniors Yasmine Akib and Laura Laforest participated in the 64th annual Student Government Day held at the State House in Boston. This program encourages students to learn about state government, to become active citizens, and to develop an understanding of the rights and responsibilities we share in a democracy. Through this program, Yasmine and Laura were able to voice their positions on important current issues through prepared debates, participate in the legislative process, exchange their views with their peers on current state issues, and participate in a simulated committee hearing. Yasmine and Laura offered insights that mirrored a great research and knowledge of the current events. They did an outstanding job!
