We urge homeowners and business owners to make certain that your pathways and sidewalks are clear of snow in the aftermath of the recent storm
Massachusetts law has been changed, as we wrote about recently, and the liability for costs related to injuries suffered by pedestrians on your sidewalks and walkways will be borne by you if it is proven they were not shoveled clear of snow and ice.
In the same spirit, we urge the city to go easy with tickets given for failure to remove snow and ice from sidewalks and pathways.
There are many elderly homeowners who cannot afford to hire someone to clear the snow or who are not healthy enough to shovel the snow themselves. These people must be given a break – not a costly city ticket.
