The special election to replace former Senator Anthony Galluccio has caused Councilor Sal DiDomenico to step forward and to announce his candidacy.
This comes as good news for Everett, which may likely be the deciding city to make the next senator.
DiDomenico was Galluccio’s chief of staff, and as such, he has come to know the sprawling district and its people well.
In addition, as a family man and a lifelong resident, he understands exactly where Everett fits in the larger scheme of things in this senatorial district.
As business owners in Cambridge for decades, the DiDomenico’s bring some name recognition to the table in that city – another key voting place in the district.
We are gratified that DiDomenico is willing to throw his hat into the ring.
We admire that he is willing to jump into the political frying pan – and that he will need to work hard and smart not to get burned.
This is going to be an important race for an important seat between groups of very high-powered candidates.
So far, the senate race has drawn in Attorney Tim Flaherty from Cambridge, Attorney Dan Hill from Charlestown, Real estate broker Michael Albano from Chelsea and six-term Cambridge City Councilor Marjorie Decker.
DiDomenico’s candidacy is the real thing.

Sal DiDomenico is not a lifelong resident of Everett. He was born and raised in Cambridge and he and his family still maintain strong Cambridge ties in addition to his strong commitments to Everett. His Cambridge connection should also benefit him in the upcoming election, though new Cambridge candidates seem to be emerging every day.
It is probably fair to say that Sal is a lifelong resident of this Senate district though the district lines do occasionally shift and it's possible to move in and out of a district without ever moving an inch. I've been at the same address for 32 years and have been in multiple senate and representative districts during that time.
