The Everett High football team will host Cambridge in the annual Thanksgiving game Thursday at 10 a.m. at Everett Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Crimson Tide have already locked up their 14th consecutive Greater Boston League championship and an invitation to the Division 1 playoffs. Their semifinal game against Merrimack Valley Large champion Billerica will be played on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Everett will be an overwhelming favorite against Cambridge whose program is in a rebuilding year. Still, the visitors will be looking to end their season with an inspired effort against Everett, one of top-ranked teams in the state.
Certainly scouts from Billerica will be in the audience so it’s unknown whether head coach John DiBiaso Jr. will showcase any new wrinkles in the Tide’s offensive and defensive schemes.
A large crowd is expected to be on hand for the traditional holiday rivalry and the final home game for the Everett High seniors.
Everett High fans will be doing a little scoreboard watching on the holiday. Xaverian, undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the state, plays St. John’s Prep in a game that has Division 1 playoff implications. An Everett-Xaverian game in the Division 1 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium would be a tremendous rematch. Everett gave Xaverian its toughest challenge of the season, falling 15 yards shy of the end zone on its final drive of the game.
Of course, Everett would have to defeat an outstanding Billerica team while Xaverian, pending a win over St. John’s, would have to topple perennial Big Three champion Brockton to set up the dream matchup in Foxboro.
